Fabrication

Material is selected from our inventory of exclusive stone slabs which are hand selected from around the world. The process starts with inspection of material. Any imperfections or fissures that can affect the integrity of the stone are marked and avoided in the final layout.

One of Arshin’s professional templaters will visit the job site to take measurements or templates. Depending on the layout, templates can be taken with a digital templating system or a manual template. The location of seams and countertop layout on the slab is also discussed at the time of measurements as well as edge overhang.

Stone slabs are cut into smaller custom shaped pieces on one of our bridge saws. Any pieces with a custom shape that is not square is put onto a CNC machine to be precisely shaped. Openings for cook tops and sinks are done in shop while faucet holes can be done in shop or after final installation.

After the pieces have been cut and shaped the edge detail is applied. The edge detail can be crafted on the CNC using a profile wheel or hand crafted by one of our veteran stone artisans. Why our edges are different? Every edge gets a final detail polish by hand.

Once the pieces are fully fabricated the countertops are delivered and installed. Joints and seams are filled using a custom colour two part epoxy. Any additional pieces including water fall gables or full height backsplashes will have their finial dimension taken and installed in the next few days.

Polished

Highly reflective, mirror gloss finish. The full color, depth and crystal structure of the stone is visible. The shine comes from the reflection of the stone’s crystals, not from a coating.

Honed

A very smooth surface without the shine of a polished one. Honed surfaces are not reflective and the stones color is slightly washed out.

Flamed

A rough surface that is created through exposure to an intense concentrated flame. During the process, the crystal structure in the stone is rapidly heated causing it to expand and flake off, thus forming a rough surface. Flaming is not applicable to all stones and it is best for outdoor applications.

Satin / Leather

The surface of the stone is honed then it is passed over with abrasive bristles. The result is a slightly textured finish similar to that of leather. The sheen falls between a polished surface and honed one.

With normal preventative maintenance, stains and scratches should be minimal. To protect stone surface, treat your stone as fine furniture. Clean surfaces with mild detergent. Thoroughly rinse and dry the surface after washing. Blot up spills immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaners that contain acids.

Arshin Stones was founded in 1997 after moving part of a family stone mason business to Vancouver from Tehran.

We take pride in continuing the Hajarbashi legacy.
